Family Involvement
Emergency Preparedness
Participants will receive training on how to help families and children cope with and prepare for emergency situations. Emergencies such as natural disasters, house/building fires and community violence will be discussed. Strategies for preparation will be shared using PBS and Sesame Street Characters and resources. Also, we will be sharing resources that can help providers in helping grief-stricken children and families cope after a loss. There will be a specific section of the training dedicated to Covid 19 and its impact on families, as well as ideas for providers to support families.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
– Navigate PBS resource platforms to find relevant multimedia materials
– Identify ways to help families prepare in advance for different emergency situations
– Identify ways to help support and console grieving families members after a (human or property) loss
– Identify ways to help families affected by tragedy cope and move forward
– Be able to share PBS resource sites with families and help them navigate for their own use.
SPECIAL NOTE
Participants can print out digital resources to use. Name(s) will be drawn during the training for a door prize to be mailed.
