2008 Providers of Distinction Award Luncheon
On October 4, 2008 at a luncheon attended by over 200 area family child care home providers and suppoters, six area FCCH providers were honored as Providers of Distinction. Winners received a beautiful award, a gift bag full of goodies, and full registration and hotel accomodations to the 18th National Conference on Family Literacy, March 1-3, 2009 in Orlando, and MORE!

On April 12, 2008, Hillsborough County celebrated Week of the Young Child with a Family Fun Day in Al Lopez Park.

In our last survey we asked parents "If you have child(ren) between the ages 0-5, how many nights per week do you read aloud to your child(ren)? Of the 503 parents that responded, here's what you said:

  • 8% of you (42) said once per week
  • 17% of you (88) said 2-3 times per week
  • 20% of you (99) said 5 times per week
  • 46% of you (232) said every night
  • 5% of you (25) said hardly ever
  • 3% of you (17) said never

Learning about books, reading and concepts of print are key to your child's readiness for kindergarten! When you read to your child regularly they learn about how to hold a book, they learn the difference between words and pictures, that lines of text are read from left to right and more! These are concepts they'll need to understand to enter kindergarten ready to learn!
