ALERT: NEW BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENTS EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2010!

By now you have heard that beginning August 1, 2010 HB 7069 will take effect and change the background screening process of job applicants, employees and volunteers who come in contact with children, the developmentally disabled and vulnerable adults.

To help you prepare for the change in the law, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) has designed a web site that will help you understand the new law and clear up any confusion about the changes.  After August 1, 2010, employers will not be able to put an applicant to work until they are cleared by a Florida and national criminal background search based on fingerprints, (a Level 2 background screening).  All background screening requests must be submitted electronically through a LiveScan vendor.

The web site will provide information quickly on who needs to be screened, who the regional contact coordinators are and answers to the most frequently asked questions.  Early preparation for such a significant change is key to a smooth transition.  Please visit the DCF web site at: http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/admin/backgroundscreening/
